"The Dream of a Hundred Spoons" explores the intersection of memory, materiality, and the absurd, using the symbolic object of a spoon as a vessel to navigate themes of loss, ritual, and freedom. Through a surreal four-minute film, the project depicts a dream sequence where the protagonist, dressed in pajamas, sits at an elegant table consuming a cake with 100 different spoons, discarding each after a single use. The film meditates on the fleeting nature of memories, the paradox of choice, and the delicate balance between preservation and release. By examining the mundane yet emotionally charged act of eating, the project interrogates how everyday objects, like a spoon, can hold profound personal and philosophical resonance.
The project grapples with failure through the act of eating—a process inherently incomplete as each spoonful simultaneously erases the cake and the possibility of preservation. It embraces the impossibility of fully capturing memory and the unknown paths left by what is discarded. Inspired by media studies themes, the project critically reflects on the limitations of material representation and the absurd beauty in the ephemeral, using the spoon as a metaphorical lens to contemplate how the mundane becomes meaningful in the context of impermanence.
