"Press Take Give - Passing on Memory"

Section MS15, Sarah Akigbogun

Keywords: photography

I often my polaroid camera to take photos of gatherings with my family and friends, and also use it to record the scenery in life and travel. Because it takes pictures immediately, I have a book to collect my bits and pieces. Every time I look back at these photos, I can feel the situation and emotion of the time again, as if those moments come alive again. These photos are more than just records, they hold many precious memories.

Based on the three actions I selected -- Press, taking and giving -- I thought I could build a story through these three actions.

  1. Press photography is not just about recording a moment, but the action of pressing to activate the shutter means you stop yand focus on the present moment. You capture a moment of someone, a scene, or an emotion.
  2. Take When the polaroid photo is removed from the camera. I think this action shows the "continuation of time" and the "manifestation of memory". While I am waiting for the photo to appear, it seems that I am also waiting for those moments that have passed to return to your eyes.
  3. Give Then, I hand the photo to someone, "giving" the photo, which means sharing, passing on, continuing. When you take a picture, you are actually putting part of your feelings, emotions and memories into the picture. When you give a photo to someone, it means sharing memories, perceptions of time, and beautiful moments with someone else.
