The aim of this project is to critique and satirise the mechanisms of human trafficking that stem from resource disparities, power structures, and legal barriers among nations. The project examines how the misuse of power by elite groups has perpetuated widespread trafficking practices between the developed and developing worlds. These elite-driven privileges, in conjunction with each nation’s legal frameworks, societal structures, and differing rates of information exchange, collectively create an invisible yet formidable barrier. The project reveals the structural complicity and tacit support that make trafficking possible, examining the systemic forces and legal loopholes that sustain these exploitative practices on an international scale. This study focuses on the complexities of contemporary human trafficking through abstract oil painting and material exploration. This artistic investigation emphasises the emotional, physical, and institutional impact of human trafficking, with each painting addressing a specific area of human trafficking: incarceration, sexual exploitation, and organ harvesting.
