"Entangled Timelines"
Section MS13, Maria Monterro Sierra
Keywords: moving-image, nature, environment, food, microscopic, time
Entangled Timelines examines the interplay between human and non-human temporalities by capturing the decay of strawberries in contrasting environments. These settings—representing preservation, consumption, and decomposition—symbolize the cyclical relationship between natural and artificial systems.
Drawing on Gertrude Stein’s Composition as an Explanation and Tehching Hsieh’s durational performances, the project redefines time as a dynamic and relational process. The methodology reflects the MS13 framework of Compose Alive a World in Motion, embracing unpredictability and fragility as central elements. The resulting installation juxtaposes multi-scalar timelines, challenging anthropocentric narratives and encouraging audiences to rethink ecological interconnections.
