I am interested in using print as my medium to explore how colonial print systems shaped education in India and gradually changed the way people think about language. During the British colonial period, print played a crucial role of controlling what was taught, read, and valued as knowledge. English, as a language was promoted for learning and progress in the form of textbooks and exercise books, while vernacular languages were systematically marginalised from the education system. This change wasn’t just limited to the colonial period. It had an existing effect on how English became linked to a social stigma in society, which still affects India's educational systems.

My research is based on the colonial educational policy and print culture in nineteenth-century India, focusing on the influence of the English language on governance structures and social hierarchies.
