"The boy from the Alps"

Section MS8, Raha Farazmand

Keywords: video, installation, fragments, object

The project unfolds as a process in which invisible traces become perceptible through accumulation and layering. By bringing together real objects and moving images, fragments become tangible thought. The medium is a digital window creating a spatial layer before and beyond its surface; a bench defines the area in front—a moment of relief and comfort—while moving images, assembled from collected fragments, form the space behind.

The territory is an invisible field of memory and control. To make it tangible, daily signals are collected and connected, translating the unseen into a visible archive. These fragments are located in a family shed in the mountains; this immaterial space now has a physical pin on the map, providing a real location for an otherwise invisible archive.

The work engages with the legacy of Heidi (1880), where the Alps are portrayed as a site of healing and distance. A real timeline and location connect this romanticised memory with a contemporary experience. Thirty-four kilometres and a century apart, the feeling remains. The project synthesises these sources—daily reminders, fictional imagery, and geographic data—into a present that holds them together.
