Secreto de Amor is a moving-image work that explores the tensions between individuality and escapism through monstrare: the act of showing rather than explaining.
Filmed across Mexico – the artist’s hometown – and its cultural landmarks, the work follows the artist’s movement through deeply coded ritual grounds, monuments, murals, beaches, and dance halls. An analogue Walkman plays “Secreto de Amor” by Joan Sebastian. Functioning as both filter and amplifier. It represents the fragments of heritage we carry with us – intimate, portable and persistent – while shaping a distinct emotional experience for each individual.
This chosen song speaks of concealed love: private affections, personal stories, and emotional inheritances that remain unseen. These “love secrets” mirror the inner narratives we carry about our origins and lived experiences, quietly influencing how we perceive and relate to our environment.
