"FIXED: Tenant's Rights Under Temporary Repair"

Section MS9, Maria McLintock

Keywords: sculpture, housing, silicone

In London, tenants often refrain from raising concerns due to fears of unjust eviction or retaliation. Even when complaints are reported, landlords frequently respond slowly, temporarily, or not at all. In particular, “temporary repairs” symbolically reveal the landlord’s neglect and can be seen as a primary trigger of today’s uninhabitable housing conditions.

Are renters in London unable to exercise their right to inhabitability?

This question is defined more specifically as the right to request repairs for elements that render a home unfit for habitation. This project aims to investigate how this right is structurally constrained and to articulate these issues through visual and material forms of media.
