In this project, paper—a human-made material derived from plants—serves as a medium for exploring the River Lea and capturing historical and industrial pollution's impact on river biology.
Three papers are immersed in the River Lea, allowing industrial materials and various plant and biological elements to imprint their characteristics.
From the imprint left on these papers, the inseparable connection between pollution and life, humans and nature, becomes palpable. The project delves into the ecological landscape surrounding the River Lea and its ties to industrialisation and development. Through a compilation of documented photographs and paper records, it invites contemplation on the intricate dynamics between the river's persistent retention of pollutants and the profound influence of industries on life within its beleaguered ecosystem.
