"Grenfell Tower - Wall of Truth Archive"

Section MS12, Riccardo Badano

Keywords: memory, archive

The truth will not be hidden. The people’s public inquest.

Under the Westway, a short walk from the covered-up remains of Grenfell Tower is a colourful wall with information stuck up by the community. In the community’s eyes, the fire reveals a history of neglect and hostility by the council. The tower block lit up like a matchstick due to the cladding covering the building, which had been installed shortly before. This catastrophe killed 72 people on the night of June 14th 2017.

This project aims to complement and preserve the wall as a powerful community tool. The medium of the poster adds to the Wall of Truth those relevant archival materials that are not fully available to the public. Parallelly, the digital space aims to create a replica of the wall in the form of a web archive hyperlinking resources, archival items, interviews, and other relevant materials without the constraints of the physical site.
