"Gaze"

Section MS9, Daryan Knoblauch

Keywords: nature

ā€œGazeā€ is a project that explores the act of staring by studying mechanisms of voyeurism, surveillance technology, and the human eye while investigating the power dynamics of the mutual gaze. Both, installation and video work aim to learn and give resolution to the over-saturation and constant confrontation of being an observer while observing at the same time. Nietzsche once said: 'When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks into you.'1 Humanity has been devoted to gazing into and exploring complex, profound, and risky domains such as the universe, genetics, and artificial intelligence. This pursuit aims to discover new approaches to problem-solving and innovative technologies. However, some of this research and technology comes with ethical and moral challenges. Human actions and decisions are not unidirectional; they are also influenced by the feedback from the subjects of our exploration.
