My Project is a book of 15 short vignettes that tell the story of my relationship with my brother. These stories chronicle some of the changes within me and the transformation of my relationship with him from the time he was born to the time he grew up. The whole story ranges from joy and happiness in the beginning, to envy and jealousy, to a renewed tight and close bond and deep love for him in the end. Through these short stories, I mainly wanted to express my love for my brother. The book is named after my brother, “Fei Fei”, which is his nickname.
Each story is a little piece that describes a little bit of how we grew up together. In the beginning, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness at the birth of my brother. I would spend a lot of time with him, providing him with care and attention. We spent countless wonderful hours together, and laughter and joy filled our lives.
However, over time, I gradually suffered from feelings of jealousy due to some bad words I heard and some of the favouritism I felt at that time from my family towards my brother. My brother attracted a lot of attention and focus because of his cute and uninhibited nature. I began to feel neglected and ignored and felt that I was no longer loved by them. Out of this jealousy came some conflict in my relationship with my brother.
However, as I grew older, I began to recognise my emotions and change my views. After communicating with my family, my brother and I re-established a close relationship, and we faced difficulties and had fun together, I tried my best to be his supporter and friend.
Through these short stories, I hope to express my unconditional love for my brother. Just like the paintings in these stories, I am willing to do everything for him, tolerate his shortcomings, and support his growth. He is my dearest family member and I will always cherish him and show my love in action.
The project is made up of watercolour paper, with my brother's drawings on the front and back cover, and the inside pages are the story of my brother and I and the decoration with my brother's drawings. The composition of the book is handmade, and the irregular burrs of the watercolour paper and the irregularity of the inside pages are mainly to create the feeling of an old diary.
