This project focuses on fallen leaves in the city. It reaches into the heart of the city and uses them as a medium to depict the contrasting landscapes of East and West London. Falling leaves symbolise the city's vibrancy and allow people to connect with their urban environment on a deeper level. This botanical exploration aims to reveal hidden stories and capture the essence of the unique neighbourhoods of the juxtaposed boroughs of Hackney and Kensington.
The project was inspired by the stark differences in the patterns of falling foliage in the East and West London boroughs, and I chose to represent Kensington in London's West End and Hackney in London's East End. In West London, the leaves are picturesque, reflecting the city's changing seasons and natural beauty. However, the same fallen leaves turn into rubbish in East London. The leaves falling in the same city are so different because of the people, culture, style and economic differences in the two areas. The project highlights the symbolic differences in the experience of living in the two areas by the falling leaves. This contrast reflects East and West London's cultural, socio-economic and urban development differences.
