"Domestic Spaces during the Wu Zetian period"
Keywords: home, built environment, feminism, publishing
This project is an exploration of the role of domestic spaces in instituting and propagating gender discrimination in contemporary Chinese culture. Departing from some archives in history and some articles during the period led by Wu Zetian(624—705), the project wants to investigate the role of women in the domestic space. The status of women within the Chinese traditional family is a particular gender dimension that is easily overlooked and marginalised. When people talk about the status of women, they are more likely to talk about feminism in the broader society, such as women's participation in politics or women's representation in the workplace, but housewives, as a niche group in the contemporary context, are gradually being marginalised.
