"Dismantling the Social Border between “Abled” and “Disabled” in South Korea"
Keywords: book
This booklet serves as a clarion call to address the social marginalisation of individuals with mental and physical disabilities in South Korea. It investigates how governmental policies and institutional practices contribute to the physical seclusion and social exclusion of this community. The primary focus is on the process of deinstitutionalisation of the many facilities designed for individuals with disabilities, fostering a more inclusive society. By visualising and questioning physical, political and ideological boundaries, this project aims to collapse the psychological borders that perpetuate social polarisation between the 'abled' and 'disabled,' steering towards a collective journey of re-unity in South Korean society.
