The project focuses on the complexity of the art of censorship, exploring the impact of redacted, modified and hidden materials in different times and contexts. The project recognises to some extent the protective role of censorship but also emphasises the need to define its boundaries.
As the scope of global censorship expands, the project examines the lasting impact of government institutional controls on artistic freedom and social justice messages. It advocates for a more balanced creative environment, emphasising the delicate ‘boundary’ between artistic creation and censorship. We need to recognise that censorship of artistic creation has never indeed stopped, but it presents itself in subtle ways.
