"We have never known the moon"

Section MS9, Keren Kuenberg

Keywords: moving image

The moon has played an important role in human history. From ancient myths and legends, to Galileo's sketches of the crater seen in the telescope, to Apollo 13's landing on the moon, our understanding of the moon has gradually increased. In the process of research, I became very interested in the transmission of information. The Galileo's sketches, the telescope images and the lunar photos taken during the Apollo mission were distorted in different degrees and dimensions. In the past 50 years, human beings have never set foot on the surface of the moon. Our understanding of the moon is limited to these photos. So I tried to use a series of pictures to discuss the accuracy of moon cognition, using three media, namely artificial intelligence, digital camera and scanner. By repeatedly using artificial intelligence to expand photos, using digital cameras to copy photos, and using scanners to enlarge photos, I have created three journeys, corresponding to how the technology of the three periods transmits information and distorts information. Finally, these pictures were hung in the corridor of the architectural college for people to watch while walking. The video shows my picture achievements, the process of making pictures and the interaction between the audience and the exhibits.
