Plastics are forever - UN

Today, we produce about 400 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. 1,447,000 tonnes of household plastic waste is generated per year. total waste generated by households in 2019 was 22.1 million tonnes Where is the waste distributed in our environment?

The use and waste of plastics are growing at an overwhelming rate. Waste impacts the environment and is a significant contributor to the climate crisis we face today, affecting our environment, humans, animals and sea life.

This project investigates the distribution of plastic waste in the environment through a series of photographs, supported by an informative photo booklet demonstrating my investigation into making bioplastics as a sustainable alternative to plastic.

I observed large numbers of trash bags filled with plastic waste lying around roadside curbs in London and in India, my home country, which indicated that plastics have a wide range of distribution in the atmosphere and are here to stay. I photograph different types of plastic waste, focusing mainly on household items that spread through our environments, ending up in the ocean and landfills alike. The project aims to enlighten individuals on the mass amounts of non-biodegradable plastic waste generated and distributed worldwide while providing the necessary information to make bioplastic a substitute and perishable material a plausible replacement to plastic.
