"A series of gardens"

Section MS8, Gabriella Hirst

Keywords:

A series of gardens is a set of digitally generated green spaces through different unusual manners by a 3D modeling software, Rhinoceros. Those gardens will be constructed by placing public green space elements in many uncommon methods, for example, blindfolding, holding my breath, and using other body parts, to develop the relationship between a digital garden space and a physical body. This connection will be generated through various constraints which allow me to approach things in a different way than I would normally do. Those mentioned limitations will be the main factor to construct gardens, while gardens are used as a medium to portray the relationship between digital and physical areas.

Different blocks of elements are added to the software, Rhinoceros, by downloading them from an online source with many keywords which are beautiful garden, perfect garden, and ideal garden. The first IDEAL garden was generated using those elements with the reference of an ideal garden plan which is usually designed to be very symmetrical. The processes of making these gardens are to copy and place each block on a 10x10 grid with different constraints applied. While many artists have created beautiful artworks as they feel inspired and comfortable, this project is going to make people experience a new piece of artwork that is made during many uncomfortable states. The distribution of approaches to create an art piece should vary in a wider range. Many art teachers in school have always been instructing children to only be comfortable when producing art while being uncomfortable could also be another approach.
